My Story

After the 1991 Oakland Hills Fire destroyed more than 3,000 homes, I published a booklet to help survivors rebuild. Decades later—and after living through multiple wildfire evacuations myself-I’ve expanded that original resource into

Rebuild & Repair. a step-by-step guide for navigating every stage of recovery. While no book can fix the loss too many communities have suffered, my hope is that someday neighborhoods destroyed by earthquakes, fires, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, or landslides will again be communities where new houses sit together as beautifully as the ones that preceded them.
